Shivaratri being observed

Maha Shivaratri, one of the greatest festivals of Hindus, is being celebrated in and outside the country by worshipping lord in various ways, Wednesday.

Tens of thousands of devotees have thronged Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu to worship lord Shiva. Devotees and sages from India have also come to Pashupatinath for the worship.

Devotees in other places observe Maha Shivaratri by worshipping lord Shiva in other Shiva temples.

Traffic around Pashupati area has been obstructed due to the presence of high number of devotees in the area. Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) has made arrangements for the worship of Pashupati.

Almost 4000 security personnel have been deployed for security in Pashupati area. Police have also deployed security personnel in plain clothes to curb the trade and use of illegal drugs marijuana and hashish.

NC president wants Paras arrested immediately; starts political consultation over Saturday night firing

Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala has demanded immediate arrest of ex-Crown Prince Parash Shah for opening fire at Rubel Choudhary, the son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister and NC leader Sujata Koirala, at a resort in Chitwan Saturday night.

Issuing a press statement on Monday, the NC president said that the government should immediately arrest him as he has admitted to have opened fire at Choudhary. He also expressed dismay over the delay in initiating action against the ex-Crown prince.

Paras says he took to firing for national, self-pride

Former Crown Prince Paras Shah on Monday admitted that he had a scuffle with the son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala in Tiger Tops in Chitwan on Saturday night, and said the incident was provoked by “derogatory remarks” against him, his family and Nepal by “two foreign nationals”.

The newest Miss World is from the United States.

Alexandria Mills, a soft-spoken 18-year-old, was named the winner in Saturday night’s contest in southern China. The tall blonde was a relative surprise winner after speculation focused on other contestants.

Second place went to Emma Wareus of Botswana, and Adriana Vasini of Venezuela came third.

The host country’s own contestant, Tang Xiao, also was among the final five.

Taskforce nears consensus

The high-level taskforce formed to resolve contentious issues on constitution drafting is “close to consensus” on the structure of the independent mechanism that will appoint judges and members of the constitutional bodies.

The seven-member taskforce couldn’t reach any conclusion on Saturday after the UCPN (Maoist) forwarded its stand that the Speaker of the Central Legislature should lead the mechanism that will appoint the chief justice and members of the constitutional bodies, said Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ramesh Lekhak. The NC and the CPN-UML have proposed that the executive of the country lead the mechanism. (more…)

King Abdullah to host Iraq talks

JEDDAH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah on Saturday invited Iraq’s political parties for talks in Saudi Arabia after Haj in an attempt to break a political deadlock and help them form a unity government in the war-torn country.

Former Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi’s Al-Iraqiya bloc, which came in the March 7 parliamentary elections ahead of Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki’s bloc 91 seats to 89, welcomed the Saudi king’s call. (more…)

Kumar Kancha’s appeal for help on YouTube

Kumar Kancha, Nepal’s ace singer, remembered for his song “Jindagi ko ke bhara cha ra” is now fighting for his own life.

He is currently bedridden with paralysis at the S L Raheja Hospital in Mahim, Mumbai. In a video uploaded on YouTube, the singer appeals to his fans and Nepali music lovers to help him financially. (more…)
